Lowly-placed Sacred Heart and Chili Dogs have thrown down the gauntlet to more fancied opponents on the first day of round 9 in A Grade.

Chili Dogs bounced back from three consecutive outright losses to compile an impressive 9-258 against finals contender Emmanuel, with Gerry McFurney unbeaten on 108. Consistent John Eaton's hard-hitting 71 was the foundation of Sacred Heart's 241, a total which might test top side Old Caulfield.

In B grade, Steve Booth's 104 has given third-placed Coles Myer a chance against top side Powerhouse. Jim O'Connell's even 100 set Carnegie up for a big score against Bayswater.

In C grade, South Yarra were bundled out for 114, but hit back to have Moorabbin Park reeling at 8-77. The loser can expect to drop out of the four, with Burnley poised to displace them after a strong batting effort.

Burnley is also looking for finals action in D grade, needing just one wicket to take the points and fourth place from Barnawartha who collapsed late in the day.

Following a recent disputed result in an A Grade match, the MCA Executive reminds captains and umpires that team sheets must be presented by skippers at the toss. Teams that fail to do this compromise their position in any dispute over illegal switching of players etc.

Accounts have been emailed to clubs this week with the second half of match ball and ground rental payments. Club need to pay these accounts to MCA Treasurer Tom Hickie by the end of round 10 (Feb 1), or receive half match points from round 10 until settlement. Tom's address for cheques is PO Box 135, Canterbury 3126.
