ROUND 12 MCA SCORES
By Alec Kahn
It was very much a weekend of two days, with batsmen scoring well on Saturday but bowlers dominating on Sunday on pitches juiced up by light rain.
Carnegie is well on the way to cementing its finals berth, after fifth-placed Reds collapsed to 5-18 before a tail-end recovery took the score to 157. At stumps, Carnegie look to be in control at 2-41 on the small Fawkner Park No.2 ground. Power House has set top side Old Caulfield a formidable target at Straw Field, while Emmanuel, Monash and the unpredictable Chili Dogs all made major inroads with the new ball late in the day to take charge of their games.
In B Grade, the intriguing battle for three finals berths continues. Fifth-placed South Yarra has already grabbed first innings points from Bayswater, but is meeting stiffer resistance in the second innings. Fourth-placed MHSOB has the edge over challengers Carnegie (sixth), but the contest between Arcadia and Coles for second place could go either way on the small Fawkner Park No.5 ground. Ladder leader Power House is struggling against lowly Glen Iris, while bottom side Reds scored a remarkable victory over Ajax in a one-day match, slamming 25 in the final two overs on a slow Cordner outfield to win on the second last ball.
In C Grade, the top four are locked in finely balanced games against each other. This should have benefited Monash, but the Gryphons have blown a golden opportunity to climb back into the four, collapsing late in the day against Emmanuel chasing a meagre 128.
In D grade, Barnawartha is well on the way to outright points against the young Carnegie side, which will settle fourth place unless Burnley can recover from a terrible start in pursuit of Gunbower's 208.
