President’s Report Steve reports briefly that Voluntary Student Unionism was passed last Friday, which will affect the way that the club runs, especially since funding is not guaranteed. The effect of VSU will impact every member of the club. 4. Treasurer’s Report 4.1 Invoice from MCA The club has received an invoice from MCA for ground hire and a fine. It was moved: ‘That the committee authorise $3325 to pay the MCA invoice’ Moved: Steve Pearson Seconded: David Harrison Carried Unanimously We have also received bills from the council for electricity and gas. The gas bill is $25.05 and the electricity bull $388.83. As the club never makes purchases this small, Cat is to check what the invoice was for. Trevor reports that as at the end of October there was $4713.63 in the bank account. Bel notes that she and Steve have match fees from several games at their house. Cat reports that she too has some match money. All are to give the money to Trevor as soon as possible. Cat reports that she has money from chocolate sales to give to Trevor tonight. Matt Varcoe also has money to give to Trevor Trevor notes that there are a few players that have debts to the club for match day fees, and the total amount of debt could be around $300. This includes debts for memberships. At present there are 53 paid up members of the club. A half season fee was discussed for players that only play games in the new year. It was decided that the club cannot afford to give these sorts of discounts this season. Trevor asks Cat whether she has seen a bill for ground rental. Cat reports that she hasn’t. Terry to ring the council and double check for us. Trevor reports that the $480 for the Entertainment Books has gone into our bank account. 5. Business Arising From Previous Minutes 5.1 Chocolate Fundraising Cat reports that she has just over $800 to give to Trevor tonight. This is 17 boxes worth, which means that there are 23 payments to be made. 5.2 Liquor Licensing Bel asks those that haven’t given their forms in to do so. Once this has been done then the liquor licensing is complete. 6. Correspondence 6.1 Correspondence In Cat reports that the only correspondence she has received are the bills previously discussed, an invitation to Australia Day celebrations from the council, and an invoice from the SDCCL totalling $0. The Reds have paid their account to us, but the Southside invoice has not been paid. 7. Other Business 7.1 Events Cat notes that the reason she put events onto the agenda is because she felt that the committee and the club needed dates to work towards. It was decided that the following events shall be held. Curry Night 21 Jan Club Rooms Trivia Night 18 Feb ECR Hall 1%/Karaoke 11 March Racecourse Hotel (?) BBQ/Pub Crawl 8 April various, beginning ECR Presentation Night 6 May TBA 7.2 VSU Steve asks Terry if he could briefly explain what will happen to the club now that VSU has come in. Terry suggests that in terms of funding, the best case scenario is that we get 50% of what we are currently getting. Steve notes that at the moment of the $7000 that we get in funding, Monash Sport asks for about $2000 back in various fees. This means that the total funding is actually more like $5000. He asks Terry whether clubs will still have to pay a fee back to the union for affiliation. Terry suggests that this amount might drop back or drop off entirely. The Student Union itself will not be able to afford accident insurance, so this will be something that the clubs have to cover. It was noted that without the same amount of money coming into the club, we will not be able to afford the same amount of teams, especially 3 turf sides. The cost to play might also deter some players from joining. It might be appropriate to think about one side joining the Sunday competition that Southside plays in. 7.3 Sponsorship Trevor has received a letter from the company that does the Entertainment Books, asking if we want to take part again. The committee decides that it should be considered, but maybe not as many books. Campbell McLeod has mad a similar proposal to the club as Kunaal did at the start of the season. It was decided that we will not be taking up this offer. Dave suggests the idea of having a wine fundraiser. Bel has also been doing some research into this. It was agreed that this could be a fundraiser for the pre-season. 7.4 Coaching The ad for a women’s coach is still up on the VWCA website. Katherine Broome to ask the association to take it off. Piyush will be returning to the Gryphons in the new year, and has volunteered to help with coaching of all teams including the women’s team. 7.5 Captains’ Review At the start of the year we said that we would be doing a review of all the captains. Women’s 1st XI Cat Jones no problems Men’s 1st XI Matt Varcoe no problems Men’s 2nd XI David Harrison only games when he wasn’t there the issue Men’s 3rd XI Ben Longridge no problems, might need to talk about ‘mates’ team Men’s 4th XI Steve Pearson no problems David and Steve both noted that they would like to play at a higher level if possible. 8. Delegates Meetings Katherine reports that there was only general housekeeping issues at the VWCA meeting, but we aren’t having any problems. Steve reports that it was the same for the SDCCL. We need to clarify what we have paid in terms of insurance, and who we are to pay it to. The MCA are looking at creating a one day competition on Sundays on turf, which will effectively act as E grade. The competition will lose the use of Fawkner Park oval 3 in the next five years. This oval will not be replaced. Practice nets will be created. 9. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held in the new year. Meeting Closed at 7.55 |
