Preamble Committee present: David Harrison (DH) President, chair Campbell McLeod (CM) Vice President Stephen Pearson (SP) Secretary Ben Gordon (BG) Treasurer and Events Manager Katherine Broome (KB) VWCA delegate Chris Russell (CR) MCA Delegate Morgan Cole (MC) Equipment Manager Apologies: 2. Minutes of Previous Meeting The Minutes of the previous meeting held on 24/07/2007 were presented for acceptance, with the following amendments: • Item 12: CM not present to second motion it was actually CR. MOTION: ‘That the minutes of meeting held on 24/07/2007 be accepted’. Moved: MC Seconded: BG CARRIED: Yes 3. President’s Report Discussion: DH to now help CR with pursuing “player of the round” sponsorships, for both male and female teams. DH notes that major sponsorship will need to be readdressed in Jan 2008, because many companies have already allocated their funds for the year at this stage. Thanks to the efforts of CM, MamaDukes and the Balcony have been brought in as sponsors for this season. Two functions to be hosted at MamaDukes: The Captains/Sponsors Night (Sep 27th), and the Karaoke Night (Dec 15th). The Captains/Sponsors Night to be semi-formal (no jeans and no thongs). 4. Treasurer’s Report Discussion: The grant from Monash Sport to be transferred to our bank this week. The MONSU bank account (currently $***.**) to remain open, with no way to transfer the money to our new account. We can still pay amount under $500 from this account. MOTION: ‘That the MGCC pays the sum of $***.** to the City of Glen Eira for Gas & Electricity.’ Moved: MC Seconded: CR CARRIED: Yes MOTION: ‘That the MGCC pays the sum of $***.** to the Melbourne Cricket Centre for Lane Hire.’ Moved: MC Seconded: CR CARRIED: Yes MOTION: ‘That the MGCC pays the sum of $***.** to the Leader Newspaper for advertising.’ Moved: MC Seconded: CR CARRIED: Yes 5. Correspondence Discussion: SP advises that the SD&CCL affiliation form is overdue, SP to submit new form. The MGAFC have contacted us about a Twenty20 match again this season. Action: SP to contact MGAFC and declare our interest, and mention that we need to organise a shield. Intermission taken in meeting: 6:57pm until 7:28pm CM Arrives at: 7:05pm 6. Meeting with Hawthorn-Monash Discussion: DH, CM, and SP meet with Hawthorn-Monash, the result of which was the submission of a wish-list to Hawthorn-Monash outlining the previously discussed items regarding men’s and women’s cricket. As yet Hawthorn- Monash is yet to make any decisions regarding the “wish-list”. 7. Delegates’ Report Discussion: MCA Meeting CR reports that the MCA had a threat from council to turn 3 pitches to synthetic for this season, since the MCA AGM however council has overturned this decision. This was one of the biggest threats the MCA has had over the past 15 years, and the clubs are to be thanked for their efforts in contacting council. Playing Dates 2007/08 The playing dates for the season will be: Oct 6; Oct 13; Oct 20-27; Nov 3- 10; Nov 17-24; Dec 1-8; Dec 15-22; Jan 5; Jan 12; Jan 19-26; Feb 2-9; Feb 16-23; semis Mar 1-2; grand final Mar 8-9-15 (16 reserve day). Successful rules changes: ONE DAY OVER LIMITS Rule 21.7 -- Replace first sentence ("In any one day match, an over limit of one-quarter of the overs allowed at the commencement of the innings shall apply to each bowler") by "In any one day match, a limit of 10 overs shall apply to each bowler during the first 40 overs of the other side's first innings". SUBSTITUTES FOR REPRESENTATIVE PLAYERS Add a clause 1.2: Notwithstanding rule 1.1, where a player is selected for the Association's senior or under-21 representative side during a two-day game, his club XI may replace him for the weekend of the representative game with any substitute player who has played for that XI previously in the season, regardless of whether the substitute player plays that weekend in any other XI of the club. The substitute player shall be named to the umpire before the day's play, and can bat, bowl and keep wickets. VWCA Meeting KB reported that the VWCA offer sizable grants for cricket clubs. DH to look at applying for a VWCA grant for help with the construction of a 3rd cricket net for use by the women’s team at ECR. 8. Merchandise Discussion: MC tabled a new stubby holder design, with Lt Blue Background, and premierships and life members listed. It is suggested that we use a colour closer to the navy we currently have, and that a established 1990 be included. The cost for jackets was discussed, and a quoted cost of over $40 per unit was dismissed. DH to look at getting a better deal for jackets. Ideally we would have around 25 for the season. CM reports that the balcony will sponsor the playing shirts for the season. The shirt will be white, with a gryphon logo on the front, with the balcony covering the full back, shirts to be paid for by the balcony. MOTION: ‘That the MGCC pays the sum of $***.** to pay for 100 stubby holders.’ Moved: MC Seconded: CR CARRIED: Yes 9. History Discussion: MC reports he is yet to hear from John Leroy in regards to provide the materials for an honour board. The committee wish to have both honour boards complete by presentation night. MC to contact John Leroy, and find out where we are at, and if this can be achieved. 10. Liquor Licence Discussion: CM reports that he will have a liquor licence by the start of pre-season. CM leaves at 8:30pm. 11. Coaching Discussion: The club received the following nominations for coaching: • Jim Sosic (men’s) • Ken Attard (men’s) • John Bourne (men’s) • Stephen Pearson (women’s) After much consideration, Jim Sosic was chosen as the coach for the men, due mainly to his ability to coach during pre-season, and a solid plan for the season. Mr. Sosic will be not be paid for this season, instead he has asked the club dedicate his payment to the purchase of good quality training balls. Mr. Sosic will be appointed as the chairman of selectors as well, and will appoint assistant coaches as required. Stephen Pearson’s application for women’s coach was accepted. Payment for Mr Pearson will be two sums of $***.** (one before Christmas and one at the end of season) Mr. Pearson’s selection for men’s matches will be place second over attending VWCA matches. The club will have the following teams this season: • Women’s 1st XI: VWCA OD • Men’s 1st XI: MCA Turf A • Men’s 2nd XI: MCA Turf C • Men’s 3rd XI: MCA Turf D • Men’s 4th XI (Sat): SD&CCL OD • Men’s 4th XI (Sun): VSCA • Junior Girls Team (possibly) Action: SP to contact the club, and ask for applications for captaincy. 12.
