Monash University CC News MGCC v Chuo Uni CCBy Stephen PearsonOn the 26th of February 2008 as part of their Tour of Australia Chuo University Women's Cricket team were hosted by the Monash Gryphons Women's Cricket weam thanks to the Mercantile Cricket Association in Fawkner Park, South Yarra. The match was arranged by the ICC East-Asia Pacific Project Officer: Nick Frayne, and with thanks to Sacred Heart's Jason Evans for organising the day. It was agreed that the two university teams would play 2 x Twenty20 matches, the first against each other, and the second a match of mixed teams. The first match was a one sided affair despite Monash Gryphons been bowled out in 17.3 overs with a total of 258 runs (Chapman 53*, Loughnan 52*, Jones 50*, Tajima 2/10) they were able to keep Chuo University to 3-111 (Kuramata 48*) at the end of 20 overs. The second match was much closer with Chapman's XI: 3-cc-155 (Chapman 50*, Nakayam 50*) defeating Tayami's XI: 2-cc-106 (Jones 50*). All aspects of the day ran extremely well, despite an unscheduled interruption from South Yarra local celebrity Sam Kekovich. The day included a wonderful breakfast at The Point Café, and a walk back to Fawkner Park, and three matches one for the guys from Chuo University against fellow MCA club Sacred Heart and the two matches between Monash and Chuo Universities. The Chuo University students had a great day, and had an exposure to the Australian cricketing culture that will be something that they will carry with them throughout their lives. Photos
