Semi Final Result - Women's XI
By Donald Baulch
The finals campaign for the Monash Gryphons Womens' XI for the season 2001-02 began today in unseasonally fine weather at East Caulfield Reserve #2.
The Gryphons, who finished the home and away fixture second on the ladder, play third placed Box Hill. The outcome of this semi-final will determine which team plays off in the Grand final next week against either Parkwood or Monash University, also competing this week.
Box Hill won the toss and decided to bat. They managed to bat the full 70 overs allotted for the innings, ending their day at the crease with 9 wickets lost for 150 runs.
Special mention to the following bowlers, who bowled very well to restrict Box Hill to this modest score:
Karen Taylor: 4/21 off 15 overs, 5 maidens
Natalie Abbott: 3/31 off 26 overs, 9 maidens
Lisa Morrison: 2/18 off 8 overs, 1 maiden
Catches taken in the innings by Natalie Abbott (2), Kelly Morris and Alison Chapman.
The Monash Gryphons unfortunately fell short of the the 150 run target set by Box Hill. The side all out for a total of 106 runs. A gallant effort, especially after ascending to 'B' Grade after winning the 'C' grade premiership last year.
The Women's XI are confident in performing very well next season in the 'B' Grade competition, with the ambition of winning the premiership in 2002-03.
The Grand Final for 'B' Grade will be played off between Box Hill and Monash University, who finished 3rd and 4th respectively on the ladder after completing the home & away fixture.
May the best team win...
