Season 2011/12 Update
By Ryan Tanner
We are halfway through another cold, wet Melbourne winter. This can only mean one this - the next cricket season is approaching!
With the Women's 1st XI bringing home a premiership last season, it's time for the Men's teams to step and perform. That said, here is some info to start the season off.
We have re-appointed Stephen Pearson as Head Coach for Season 2011/12. Steve was productive in adding some much needed structure to our training sessions last year . With a season's experience, he will be looking to take all our Men's teams into finals.
Assistant Men's Coach:
In addition to Steve we are looking for a Assistant Men's Coach to assist with the training sessions during the year. We will be accepting applications from within the MUGCC playing group. If anyone has an interest in applying or know someone from outside the club with an interest to get into coaching, please contact me on 0404 218 669 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Women's 1st XI is also looking for a dedicated Coach this season. After their success last year, they are hoping that a coach will help them build more success. Level 1 accreditation is required. If you know of anyone that may be interested, please contact me (email@example.com) or Morgan (firstname.lastname@example.org).
PRESEASON - Starts Thursday 25th August
Our preseason will again be a mix of Indoor net sessions and Outdoor sessions at ECR. Again this year, Steve will be ensuring that the preseason is well rounded; focusing not only batting and bowling, but improving fielding and fitness.
The Men's teams will have their first session on THURSDAY 25th AUGUST, 7PM at Melbourne Sports Stadium (13 Duerdin Street, Clayton). The first outdoor session is the following SUNDAY 28th AUGUST at 2PM at East Caulfield Reserve
The Women's 1st XI squad will begin their pre-season on SUNDAY 28th AUGUST at 2PM at East Caulfield Reserve.
This season, we have changed things up - the captains for each team will be voted on by the playing group. Applications for the captaincy will open on the 7th of September. Speak to myself or Morgan for further details.
In addition to the sponsors we have on board already, we are always looking for more. If you have anyone you know that would be a great sponsor for the Gryphon's then please let us know. In return, if you bring a sponsor down to the club we will reduce your subs.
Yours in cricket.
