MUGCC 3rd XI Round 4
By Stephen Pearson
Round 4 for the 3rd XI was a great milestone game, with myself playing my 200th game and Harro playing his 150th. The weather was against us from the start, but when the prepared pitch was deemed unplayable, the umpires decided we could use the old wicket, which was considerably better. I won the toss and choose to bowl, knowing that it would be tough at the start. We dropped 3 catches of Angad’s first over, but then improved from there. At one stage we had Indigo 5/33, but their skipper and their tail dug in, and made 113 from the rain reduced 38 overs. Angad took 3/31, Harro edged closer to 300, with 1/15 and Matty the Lad took 2/26.
Batting started poorly too, with last week’s star Sweeney gone in the first over. Joey Parel and Angry Angad putting on a 50 run stand for the 2nd wicket to setup us nicely. But when Angry held out for 15, we soon collapsed to 5/71. Enter THE MOOSE, undisturbed by the green wicket and the match situation, and feeling at home in the winter like conditions, Moose hit a four to get off the mark, and then later hitting consecutive sixers to bring us in triple figures. Moose was then dubiously bowled, and Joey Parel who played very well for 47 ran him out, once again dubiously, leaving it all up to Harro and Snoopy. But Wonder Bat rose to the occasion and sealed the match, making it 4 from 4 for us.
Big thanks to the 1st XI players who came down to support us after their match was washed out.
