Student makes perfect Debut

By Stephen Pearson

Second Year Monash University student, Adrian Mellar has had the perfect debut cricket season. Adrian who studies Computer Science at Monash University came down to the Monash University Gryphons Cricket Club at the start of season 2013/14 after moving away from home in Barwon to start University in 2013. Luckily for Adrian he, along with fellow Monash student Cameron Davey joined the D-Grade Turf side, in the Mercantile Cricket Association. That D-Grade side would go on to win every game for the season, including the Grand Final.

This Grand Final Victory was largely setup by Adrian himself, as he made 78 from 121 balls, tearing his hamstring in the process, but that did not stop him from keeping wicket for 40 overs, and not conceding a single bye. This effort earned him the player of the match award for the Grand Final, and was his second half century in two weeks, as he made 59 in the Semi Final the week before.

Adrian was also selected in the Mercantile Cricket Association Under 21s representative team as a wicket keeper, and played one game against the North Metro Cricket Association.

The Monash University Gryphons Cricket Club welcomes players of all standards and has discounted membership fees for Monash students.
