Eagles v Gryphons T20 Match 2
By Stephen Pearson
AWSCCC v MUCC
@ Etzel Street Reserve, Airport West
On the 7th Feb 2016 the Monash University Cricket Club traveled to Airport West, to play Airport West St Christophers' in a Friendly Twenty20 Match as part of the club family day.
Monash University won the toss and bowled first in perfect conditions.
After a steady start the home side were reduced to 4/23 thanks largely to Gurdev Singh Vasser. Gentile (30) and Cooray (37) then steadied the ship and pushed the total beyond 100, and with some late order hitting the Eagles set a total of 121.
A great feed was had by all at half time, and then it was the Gryphons turn to bat. With the loss of early wickets the run-rate kept climbing. But it was Andy Bajwa that played a brilliant hand, knocking the ball into the gaps until with 18th over, when he smash 16 off 3 balls, brought up his 50 and retired.
With 3 to win of the last 2 overs it was down to Ravirajan and 11 year old Matty Pearson, the Eagles brought the field up, making it hard to find the singles, but when Pearson hammered the ball through covers for the winning run, the Gryphons had won the second annual T20 match.
A great spririted match with many younger players getting the opportunity to shine, the club looks forward to hosting the annual match next season.
Winner: MUCC by 3 wickets
